Job Shadow:Job Reflection NARRATIVE For my Job Shadow, I got the honor to interview some of the most courageous people in this country, Entrepreneurs. Last year I developed an interest for the field of business. Along with a group of classmates we got the opportunity to participate in a challenge in which we would present a business idea as young, innovative, entrepreneurs competing with students all around the San Joaquin Valley which also had very creative ideas. Through our arduous journey, we developed an idea, created a presentation in 1 -2 weeks when some of our opponents already had months even years working on theirs! Fortunately, we received the help of very successful entrepreneurs who we got the chance to interview to cover our Job Shadow. They were Randy Wallis and his associate, Lindsay Lathrop, two very successful Entrepreneurs who are in charge of ensuring the success of business they work with. In my case, I had interest in discovering more about the field of business. Thus, doing my Job Shadow on them was ideal. Distance marked one of the most difficult challenges for the Job Shadow but with the help of technology, we made a video call which enabled us to carry out our interview. Mr. Wallis and Mrs. Lathrop, both made many suggestions to our project and demonstrated how a real entrepreneur thinks and acts. We met several times and gradually, we began improving our business idea with all the feedback they gave us based on their entrepreneurial experience and their expertise in business. While giving us feedback, they also enriched us with knowledge about what is necessary for becoming an entrepreneur and basically worked with us as if we were their clients seeking to expand our business. We truly went on the next level of a Job Shadow because we were actually there in action, not just observing, involved with entrepreneurs who guided us through everything that their job consisted of. Although, we did not get first place, second place, or even third place, it was okay because we learned so much. We were all so overwhelmed with everything that we needed to have figured out about our business ideas. There I learned that being an entrepreneur does not only consist of making good monetary decisions but also of being creative. Right before the challenge my team and I spent hours just trying to come up with a business idea that would convince the judges and it truly isn't as simple as it seems because their is many factors we needed to consider about our product ideas that would work or not. We also learned about the communication skills needed for this. You could have the best product in world but if you can't convince people why you're product is such an amazing idea then you won't reach the full potential of the product. I liked the fact that if you have enough knowledge, enough of communication skills, monetary skills, and creative thinking skills you are able to go as far as you are determined to because I am the type of person that is willing to work as hard as it is necessary for something. As an entrepreneur, you don't always remain with the same amount in your check every month, you get to travel and basically see new things everyday. However, perhaps, it is not the job for me because I am not really a risk taker, and that is a big part of being an entrepreneur. Yes, you'll be extremely ready for your business victories where you'll be amazed at the thousands of dollars your business makes, but you also need to be ready for failures which may leave you bankrupt living under a bridge.
